This is a an animated storyboard that I created for the theme movie for Russell Brown’s Art Director’s Invitational Master Class. It was integral to the production of the “film” as I would be unable to be onset during principal photography. Since I was responsible for the direction of the film and Russell’s acting, and staging, I needed to convey what I wanted through animation.

I hand drew all of the storyboards were on paper and then scanned into the computer. I then cut up individual body parts and background elements in photoshop. Once I had layered photoshop files of the individual storyboards I placed them in After Effects and animated them.

This is a comparison of the selected animated storyboards along with the finalized animation for the film. There are gaps in the storyboards which were due to last minute changes in the narrative to add a few scenes in.

The animated storyboards proved to be extremely useful for conveying the mood of the action. Russell was able to glean the proper direction from the boards and deliver a great performance.
